Learn to Crochet a Faux Fur Russian Hat
Introducing the “Anastasia Shapka” Hat
“Shapka” means hat in Russian.
This pattern teaches you how to make a basic beanie hat using bulky (#6 weight) yarn, plus how to turn that into a stylish Russian Shapka using faux fur yarn to create the fur brim.

Learn to Crochet with Faux Fur Yarn.
It’s very warm, comfortable, and stylish! This hat is not difficult to make, however working with faux fur yarn for a beginner may be challenging in the sense that you need to “feel” for the next stitch. The actual stitches are not difficult. If you’re willing and determined, just follow the step by step instructions here and in the video, you can make yourself a beautiful Russian faux fur shapka!
Time to Complete.
This pattern takes a couple hours to make so it is a fast gratification project.

Materials
Approximately 80 yards of bulky weight (#6) yarn for the hat.
Approximately 64 yards of bulky faux fur yarn for the brim.
Yarn for Hat – Choose 1
Other suitable yarns:
Faux Fur Yarns for Brim – Choose 1
- Yarn Bee Fur the Moment in “Wolf” – 1 skein
Or
- Lion Brand Go for Faux yarn – 1 skein
- Crochet hook.9.0 mm (M/13). **
- Scissors **
- Yarn needle I used: Susan Bates Finishing Needles (Easiest to use) **
- Measuring tape **
