Instructions
Begin: (Optional) To make perfect for your body: Measure around your shoulders and chest. Calculate a length that is about 6 inches less than circumference around your shoulders and about 3 inches less than your chest. Choose the larger number. In my video example, I have a 41 inch shoulder circumference and a 38 inch chest circumference. So I chose 35” for the width of my scarf/shawl.
Foundation Row 1: Ch3, ESC (extended single crochet) in first chain, (1 loop completed), *(Ch3, ESC in 1st chain)* Repeat 22 times for a total of 23 loops. Check that this measures approx. 35 inches with some room for stretching if your yarn is stretchy. Make more or less loops for the size you want. Turn Work.
Row 2: Ch3, SC in top of first 3 Chain space, *(Ch3, SC in next Ch3 Sp)* Repeat to 2nd to last space, Ch3, SC in 2nd chain of last Ch3 Sp. NOTE: The last Ch3 Sp is always going to be a little smaller than the other Ch3 Spaces so watch carefully for it. See video tutorial to see how this looks. Loop Count: Always same amount as starting row.
Row 3- Row 22: Repeat Row 2 for a total of 22 rows. You may make more or less rows according to the size you desire. Count your loops every row to avoid/catch mistakes.
DON’T CUT YARN.
Edging: Single crochet along the short side edge, then 3 SC in corner st, SC along starting long edge, 3 SC in corner, SC along opposite short side edge. No edging needs to be done on the last row of the mesh.
Lacing Cord:
Chain a length of cord with single, double, or triple strands depending on the thickness of your yarn. See pattern tutorial for 2 ways to make this cord.
Go to this Video for additional ways to make lacing cords
Make your cord approximately 5 inches longer than the short side of your scarf.
See pattern video below for different ways to lace and style your scarf/shawl.
Finishing:
Sew in all ends.
Enjoy!
