Introducing the “Crochet Rose Shawl Pin”
Learn to Make and Easy Crochet Rose
This Crochet Rose comes in two sizes, small and large. It can be used as a Shawl Pin, a Hair Clip, or an embellishment for any crochet or knitted item such as hats, cowls, scarves, sweaters and more.

You will need: approximately
100 yards of worsted weight (#4) yarn. I used Red
Heart Super Saver Stripes in “Flamenco Stripes”
Other Yarn Options:

- Regular Crochet Hook 6.5mm **
- Scissors **
- Yarn needle I used: Susan Bates Finishing Needles (Easiest to use) **
- Measuring tape **

Pattern Instructions
Difficulty Level
Advanced Beginner – Beginners can work this pattern using the Video Tutorial.
Dimensions & Gauge
Small Rose = Approximately 3” diameter
Large Rose = Approximately 3.5” diameter
Stiches Used and Abbreviations
Ch= chain
Sl st = slip stich
St(s) = stitch(es)
YO= yarn over
SC = single crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
See video tutorial for demonstration of all stitches
DC = Double Crochet
EDC = Extended Double Crochet – YO, insert hook into stitch, YO, pull through a loop, (3 loops on the hook), YO pull thru 1 loop, YO pull thru 2 loops, YO pull thru 2 loops.
Shell: Several Stitches into 1 stitch. Example: 5DC Shell = 5 DC into 1 stitch
Each Shell in this pattern is a petal of the flower.
Instructions
SMALL ROSE
BEGIN: Chain 28
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook and every chain to the end. <27 SC’s>
Row 2: Ch1, Turn work. Start in 2nd SC:
*(5DC Shell, Sl St in next st)* Repeat * to * 6 times,
*(5HDC Shell, Sl St in next st) Repeat * to * 4 times,
*(5SC Shell, Sl St in next st) Repeat * to * 3 times <13 Shells/Petals>
Chain 1, Cut yarn leaving 15-20” tail. Pull yarn through to secure.
SEW: Twirl the piece in a spiral fashion until it resembles a rose. Sew all the levels together going back and forth, sewing into the SC sts of the first row, until all parts of the flower are secure. See video for demonstration. https://youtu.be/vHVdlbC1bYI
LARGE ROSE – 5 Rows
BEGIN: Chain 44
Row 1: SC in 2nd ch from hook and every chain to the end. <43 SC’s>
Row 2: Ch1, Turn work. Start in 3rd SC: 5 EDC Shell in next st, skip st, Sl St in next st,
*(skip st, 5 EDC Shell in next st, skip st, Sl St in next st)* Repeat * to * 5 times,
*(5DC Shell, Sl St in next st) Repeat * to * 5 times,
*(5HDC Shell, Sl St in next st) Repeat * to * 4 times <15 Shells/Petals>
Chain 1, Cut yarn leaving 15-20” tail. Pull yarn through to secure.
