Learn 3 Color Tunisian Crochet

Learn 3 color Tunisian crochet using the Tunisian Simple Stitch (TSS) and the Tunisian Reverse Stitch (TRS).

Pattern:

Materials:

You can use any yarn you like. The yarn I used was particularly good because it is stretchy, doesn’t lose it’s shape, and it dries easier than cotton.I used worsted weight (#4) nylon yarn for this pattern. I used about 25 yards of EACH of 3 colors in HobbyLobby’s Yarn Bee “Scrub-Ology Scrub It Yarn” in Blue Thistle, Aqua and White.

Ultimately any “scrubbie style” yarn will work.

Optional

  • Rubber band

Dimension & Gauge:

My scrubbie measures approximately 7.5” around.

Gauge is not critical. You simply make it to fit your hand.

In the Scrubbie I made my gauge was: in a 4” x 4” square = 14 Sts and 10 Rows of TSS

Difficulty Level:

Easy. Adventurous beginners can try this pattern while following along with the video tutorial.

Stitches Used and Abbreviations:

Ch= Chain

YO = Yarn Over

Sl St = Slip Stitch

Sk = Skip

St(s) = Stitch(es)

NRP = Normal Reverse Pass

CRP = Connecting Return Pass

TSS = Tunisian Simple Stitch

TRS = Tunisian Reverse Stitch

Special Stitches:  See the video tutorial for demonstration of all stitches.

TSS: insert hook from right to left under vertical loop, YO, pull up a loop.

TRS: insert hook in back of work under the back vertical bar, YO, pull up a loop.

Normal Return Pass: YO, pull thru 1 loop, *(YO, pull thru 2 loops)* Repeat * to * to until 1 loop left on hook.

Bind Off & Connection – use Slip Stitch bind off and connecting to first chained row simultaneously.

  1. Fold item in half with right side facing out.
  2. First stitch: With 1 loop on hook, insert hook into the corresponding chain of the 1st chained row.
  3. Work each additional stitch as follows:
    1. Begin as if to TSS, then also insert hook into next corresponding chain, YO, pull thru a loop. (2 loops on hook), then slip stitch through the 1st loop on your hook. Do NOT cut the yarn.

Finishing

You will have 2 working strands coming off your work at the left hand side. Leave a 30-40 inch tail and cut.

You can either make either:

1. A chain with these two strands using a slightly larger hook (6.5mm) or

2. A braid along with attaching additional strands to make a thicker braid.

When your chain or braid is approximately 12” long make a knot and then attach back to the scrubbie with a square knot. See video tutorial for demonstration.

Cut 3rd working yarn at the right hand side of your work and sew in all ends.

Enjoy your Tunisian Shower Scrubbie!
